Many people despise hyenas and see them as filthy and greedy but that's not the case. Hyenas are equally important and more. I will here tell you how. They too play part in the energy cycle hence making the ecosystem balanced. Hyenas mostly feed on dead and decomposing materials of other dead living creatures. This in itself helps in cleaning the environment from toxic substances that may be introduced from such dead organisms, supposing such animals was killed after consuming a poisonous substance. They do have one of the strongest immune system as they do not get affected even after consuming such. Hyenas are predators who have a profound impact on the ecosystems within their habitats. These African carnivores can grow up to 175 pounds. They are social animals who work in groups. Taxonomical the hyaniedae  family containes four species: three hyenas are similar but smaller termite eating aardolf (Proteles Cristala) The most famiiar species the spotted hyena (Curucuta curucuta) is found throuout sub-saharan Africa and occcurs at high densities in the Mara-Serengeti ecosystem. The brown hyena (Hyaena brunnea) lives in the arid habitats of southwest africa including the Namib and Kalahari deserts.
