Sunday 5th January 2020. Al-Qaeda Affiliate Al-Shabaab tacked camp simba Army bases thats host US and Kenya as soldiers in Lamu’s Manda Bay.
Later Kenya Defence Forces issued a statement confirming that at least four terrorists have been killed at Manda airstrip in Lamu after a botched raid by Al shabaab militants.
“This Morning at around 5:30am an attempt was made to breach security at Manda Air Strip. The attempted breach was successfully repulsed. Four terrorists bodies have so far been found. Arising from the unsuccessful breach a fire broke out affecting some of the fuel tanks located at the airstrip. The fire has been put under control and standard security procedures are now on-going.”
We can authoritative confirm that the damage caused by the attackers is not extensive and has zero impact on camp simba operability, zero impact on tactical, strategic and combat capabilities of the base. They destroyed 2 Light Aircrafts, 2 US army helicopters and some vehicles. The planes were not in use. They were all in irreparable condition hence zero value to the military forces. Only one of the vehicles affected was in use.
Kenya already had an intelligence on pending attack on airport or airplane. In a statement that was issued by the US Federal Aviation Administration early this month, the US issued an air travel advisory for all US registered aircraft flying above the Kenyan Airspace due to what it said was an extremist militia activity.
While conducting the attack the terrorists released a statement claiming responsibility. They said that the attack has been carried out by a unit within the militia known as ‘Matyrdom Brigade’
“In the early hours of Sunday morning, an elite group of soldiers from Harakat Al-Shabaab Al- Mujahideen’s ‘martyrdom brigade’ launched a daring dawn raid on a U.S naval base known as ‘Simba Camp’ in Lamu county Kenya,” the statement read in part.
