August 12th is a day set aside by UN for governments and others to draw attention to youth issues worldwide. During International Youth Day, concerts, workshops, cultural events, and
meetings involving national and local government officials and youth organizations take place around the world.
This year International Youth Day was themed : “Transforming Education” highlights the efforts needed to make education more relevant to the youth.
In Tanariver County, the event was held at Hola Primary school and was attended by dignitaries from the National government and county government, youth were also represented by youth leaders.
Tana Youth Alliance President gave a brief history of the day and how it came about and also briefed about the alliance.
The Youth Alliance leader insisted on the importance of education and its impact to the society. He further emphasised the youth to shun away from drugs and urged the boy child to keep away from under age school girls inorder to lower the rate of early pregnancies. He also expressed his dissatisfaction on how the census recruitment was done where government employees were prioritised over jobless youth in the county.
The County Executive Committee member of Education Mr. Abbas read the governor’s speech. the minister said that their is a modern hall which is under construction and it will be a centre for civic engagement, culture and talent growth.
He further said that a culture bill to support the same is expected to be passed.
The County government of Tanariver in collaboration with NITA will train 150 boda boda riders and will be awarded with certificates, the training was scheduled for 9th to 11th August in each subcounty but didn’t take place.
On the 28th to 30th August, a mega cultural and tourism extravaganza will take place in the county and monies has been set aside for the same and that the county government has partnered with the National Presidential Music Commission to support Tanariver youth musicians.
In September the governor scholarship program will be launched officially, the county government already has a data base of all university and high school students and that the government has plans to give a hundred percent scholarship to students joining national schools.
