A 30 years old man was yesterday sentenced to serve nine years in jail for food theft.
Seth Hamara Aseth was yesterday found guilty for a theft charge by Mpeketoni Resident Magistrate Pascal Nabwana.
The accused who was facing a second conviction after he was previously convicted for house breaking, had an unfavourable report from the probation officer Tashrifa Mohamed who reported that Mr. Hamara had absconded community social work in a previous conviction and that he was not a first offender and recommended a custodial sentence and also blamed alcoholism for the convicts conduct.
On the theft charge, he was accused of breaking into his employer’s restaurant at night and walked away with foodstuff worth ten thousand shillings.
Hamara who was the sole key holder of the food store was suspected of the food theft after he failed to report to work on the following day.
