GARSEN MP HON.HASHAKA KICKS OFF EFFORTS TO CLOSE KALOTA CANAL AND “MATHENGE” ERADICATION PROJECT.

Garsen Constituency member of Parliament Hon.Ali Hashaka Wario had a ‘meet the people’ tour on friday in his constituency in his efforts to salvage the challenges being faced by his constituents.

The devoted Mp was accompanied by Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko, Senator Juma Wario, Galole Mp Said Posta, NEMA Director General Godfrey Wakhungu, Mr.Paul Matiku Nature Kenya, NEMA board member Halima Ware among other leaders.

They visited Kalota Canal that has been channeling salt water from the Indian ocean to the main land affecting fresh water in the lower part of Tanariver.

The Kalota Canal situation has affected the aquatic life system and wildlife system in the region, the former County administration led by former Governor Hussein Dhadho tried severally to close the canal but failed, this has resulted to perennial problems to the residents.

“The salt water from the canal has negatively affected our economy as our Livestock and crops lacks fresh water, we also have hard time in searching of fresh water to drink,” complained a resident.

The MP and the Environment CS promised to treat the issue as urgent and promised to attend to the issue in the shortest time possible.

Later in the day, the team visited Danisa village for a baraza, the residents complained about the disastrous ‘Mathenge’ tree, scientifically known as proscopis julifora which has been a menace in the area. The minister assured the residents that challenges faces by the communities in natural resource management will be addressed.

The MP, through the national government will hire youth to clear the plant, a project which will be launched soon.
