Today Kenya is celebrating its 56th madaraka day. President Uhuru Kenyatta will be leading the celebration in Narok County while the Tana River County Governor Major (rtd) Dhadho Godhana will be officiating in Hola.

Kenya is celebrating 57 years of independence and 7 years of devolution but the people of Garsen North Ward feel neglected by both county and National Government

For the past five days the Gamba-Kitere road has been impassable due to the high rain falls which started earlier this week.

Traders are not able to get their supplies from Garsen shopping centre. Now imagine the situation on the ground where the locals depend on these shops? What if there is emergency and someone needs medical attention? Honestly they are suffering.

Wondering why our neighboring county, Kilifi County is constructing tarmac roads while our county is unable.

There is a government clinic at Gamba and no any government health facilities upto Kitere village.

During Danson Mungatana reign as Garsen Constituency MP, he built a dispensary at Kulesa village but the county government has failed to deploy personnel and supply medicines. Now the facility serve as bats residency.

At Sailoni village, there is a dispensary built by missionaries. Last time it’s doors were open was more than ten (10) years ago. The county government has done nothing to operationalize the facility.

Concerning the road, leaders have been giving empty promises year in year out. Infact it has been used as a polical tool, politicians promise that they are going to construct the road, only to disappear once elected. Do the Garsen North Ward votes count?

Legally having a genuine title deed is a sign of land ownership but it’s like it’s inapplicable in Garsen North Ward. The natives own Giritu Ranch many years despite having a title deed the government created Galma Location on it for foreigners. Am told the matter is court, we are waiting for the decision.

Still on land, the government through TARDA acquired trucks of land in Salama. The locals fought for their rights in courts, later they won but it was a short time victory as the court overturned it’s verdict.

When the locals were negotiating the river to pass at Sailoni, Tarda promised to construct bridge as their farms will be across the river after completion of the project. More than 20 years now the government through TARDA has not fulfill this promise, infact the project has turned out to be a calamity.

After changing the river course, their farms are no longer productive as they have dried up.

They are feeling that they are neglected by both governments and they see nothing to celebrate about.

As Kenyans will be watching president speech on TV, unfortunately this will not be for the Garsen North Ward people, as their solar panels will not charge their batteries due to cloudy skys and rains

Hawa wameachiwa Mungu nini?

“Special place in hell is waiting for all leaders who are pretending to be blind to our suffering”, said Komora who is Garsen North Ward resident when was talking to Pokomo Magazine author Freddie Matiba.

They have one question to the leaders and the governments, is a crime to be from Garsen North Ward?
