Tana women and youth have a reason to smile after funds from the Women Enterprise and Youth Fund and National Government Affirmative Action Funds (NGAAF) were made available for them to access and empower themselves economically.
The event that was held at Hola Primary and graced by Gender Permanent Secretary madam Safina Kwekwe and Tana River County Women representetive, Hon.Rehema Hassan and was well attended by women and youth.
During the event, the Tana women were given a whooping 3.9 million shillings through the Women Enterprise Fund, The County MP through the affirmative fund also gave Eight hundred Thousand Shillings.
Those to benefit are the small scale business women and the youth, the County MP encouraged the Youth and women to engage in economic activities that will help to empower them, she also asked the youth not to mismanaged funds they have borrowed and also repay the loans so that they can get bigger loan amounts.
In what appears to be a sign of hope after news of suspension of Uwezo Funds in Tanariver County, most of those interviewed expressed their happiness and timely intervention of the incoming funds to the Tana Women and youth.
” We are extremely happy for our Women Representetive, she have been a source of hope to many parents and a role model, with the current initiative of the NGAAF kitty in Collaboration with the Women fund, we are going to benefit alot, these are good news to us after yesterday’s news of the Uwezo funds ban because of the defaults by the borrowers,” one of the Mama Soko said.
It’s perceived that the Uwezo fund managers used to give the monies without any valuation of the borrowers capacity of repayment, they also disbursed the monies with a political inclination hence the huge defaults rate.
