The Kenya Lutheran Church (Kelc) annual peace league kicks off in Tana Sub county.


Morning games started exactly 6:30 am, where Matabule FC of Garsen played against In In-Tana of Tarassa at Garsen Primary school playing field. Matabule won 7 – 5 on penalty after the game ended 0 – 0 enabling them to proceed to the semi final tomorrow.

Gamo FC of Kulesa played against Burakofira at Maua Primary school playing field. Burakofira won 2 – 1. Burakofira also proceeded to the semi final.

The evening games started at 4:00 pm where Sailon lost on penalties to River Pirates FC of Golbanti after a 1 – 1 draw. River Pirates were able to score 5 penalties against Sailoni 4. The game was played at Maua primary.

Nameless FC of Garsen knocked Savanna FC out of the tournament after winning 1 – 0 the game played at Garsen Primary.

Tomorrow morning Matabule FC will play against River Pirates FC and in the evening Nameless will play against Burakofira FC.

Lutheran church has been sponsoring the tournament for the last four years, the purpose of the league is to bring youth together and preach peace in the area. it should be remembered that Tana Delta was hit by worst tribal clashes in 2012 and early 2013.

The winner will be awarded 30,000 Ksh, New Jersey, two football balls and a trophy. The runners up will be awarded 15, 000 Ksh New Jersey and football ball. While all other participating teams will be awarded New Jersey and a football ball.

Nameless are the defending champions, 2016 winners are Kipao, 2015 and 2014 Matabule.

The league has been the best organised tournament in Tana Delta and i think the entire County.
