The Mama Chap Chap tournament was not only for boys but also girls were not sidelined, they also participated all the way from the ward level now the county level.

Maroni girls football club is now the Champions of the girls category on the today’s concluded tournament sponsored by the Women Representative for Tana River County Hon Rehema Hassan.

On the 20th December 2018, Hola stadium was packed full by crowd of spectators who came from various corners of the county to witness the finals and the closing ceremony of the Mama Chap Chap tournament which has been witnessed all around the county.

Maroni girls fc, as its name suggests, the club comes from Maroni. The girls qualified to the finals to play against Savanna Girls from the Tana Delta sub county.

It was a very interesting game as much when it attracted many fans who attended. Savanna Girls had to accept a painful defeat of 3-0 goals.

Maroni Girls who featured very talented and experienced players, managed to show off their capacity to win game.

The winner and that was Maroni Girls from Tana River sub county, went home with Shillings 150000,while the second runner-up Savanna Girls from Tana Delta Sub County were awarded Shillings 100000 while Madogo Girls from Tana North Sub County took away Shillings 50000 home.

The leaders who witnessed the matches, urged our sisters to continue excelling on sports since it pays a lot.

One of our sister from the Maroni Girls squad was acknowledged by a coach who is currently overseas coaching, but attended the closing ceremony, he urged the girl to work extra hard and one day will play professional football overseas. The girl is currently playing for a club at Mathare in Nairobi.

The Pokomo magazine desk interviewed some fans and they had something to say. “We would like to see more tournaments than the one we saw. Mama Chap Chap has done good, let her keep it up. Our boys and girls did their best. The tournament has prevented the youths to engage themselves on crime, drug abuse and many other vices. It was a good thing, ” a Gange fan said.
