Three Injured by IED planted by Al-Shabaab Militants in Boni Forest


Three people were serious injured on December 8, 2018 after their lorry they were traveling in ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) between Mararani and Sankuri in Lamu County.

Three trucks were heading to Kiunga from Hindi to deliver Construction materials when they were nearing Sankuri the lead truck registration number KBW 969K make UD at around 0902hours was hit below the engine by an EID and was extensively damaged. 

The truck had three occupants who were;
1). Issah Abubakar Yusuf who was the loader and he sustained injuries on his eyes, head and left leg.
2). Athan Hareth Oloo who was the driver, he was injured the left leg and
3). Ahmed Khalif Anshur who was a co-driver, his both legs were seriously injured.

The three were all assisted and given first aid by Kenya Defense Forces officers from Sankuri camp then Kiunga dispensary before flown to King Fahad county hospital in Lamu town.

Later the other two remaining trucks proceeded to Sankuri Police camp. Linda Boni operation director Joseph Kanyari said they are suspecting the explosive was planted by Al-Shabaab militants.
